Lenten Season

Lent is supposed to be a season of repentance. That isn't a sense of guilt, but rather an appreciation of how sin divides us from God and how much it cost Him to reconcile us. Lent, or kwaresma in Filipino, is a season during which Filipinos remember Christ's passion, pain, death, and resurrection. It's known as Mahal na Araw or Semana Santa in the Philippines. The Philippines is known for being Asia's only predominantly Christian nation, with a large population of devout Catholics, which explains why Lent Season or Holy Week rituals are commonly observed in a unique manner.

During the Lenten Season, Filipinos have traditionally observed Holy Week, which typically falls in April. Various churches have different services for prayers, devotions, and other religious rituals that contribute to remembering Jesus Christ's life to save us during Holy Week. Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week, which is followed by Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday.

It is such a good culture that Filipinos reflect Jesus' life and passion to show how salvation comes to all mankind. This Lenten Season serves as a reminder of the value of love, hope, and discovering the true meaning of our lives.
