A feast of heritage and culture

Located in the northern part of Luzon, Ilocos Sur is a lovely province. It is a culture-rich province reflecting the ancient Spanish and Filipino culture. The locals conceived a festival that highlights these cultural rituals in order to display and share their treasures to the entire world and named it the "Kannadiwan Festival." It is a festival that lasts until the first week of February, from the last week of January. The commemoration of the province's founding day is included in the course of events.

There are a few events during the festival, such as county fair, track and field, design and painting and street dancing. The Miss and Little Miss Saniata ti Ilocos Sur is the most famous event, where individuals support their members in this competition per municipality. It is possible to see different artists and famous celebrities as well. The dancing fountain and fireworks display can also be experienced. Products from various sources, including food, furniture and clothing, are also present. These activities are often well organized by the authorities in the province.

This year, Ilocos Sur residents celebrate the annual Kannawidan Festival in a simpler way. Even if this is our current situation due to the pandemic right now, Ilocanos did not skip celebrating it. Kannawidan Sports Fest, Food Fairs and Saniata Ti Ylocos Sur, which is one of the most important and happiest sections of the festival, but only small individuals were allowed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, social and mass meetings, the use of face masks and social distancing have been imposed.

Considering the situation we currently face, we are able to come together and obey safety standards because of the pride we have in being able to highlight the municipalities and cities that describe everyone in Ilocos Sur.
