PREPARED FOR THE WORST

Preparing for an emergency event plays a key role in ensuring that when an emergency happens, everyone has the appropriate resources, determines where to go and manages to keep themselves safe. Since earthquakes occur without warning, at the first sign of ground shaking, life-protecting measures must be taken immediately. There will  be no time for what to do to think on. Therefore, earthquake drills are the most important of all earthquake preparedness measures.

Participating in the national simultaneous earthquake drill raises public awareness of earthquake preparedness for disasters and tests local disaster risk reduction and management councils’ contingency plans. To rehearse planned emergency situations, drills and exercises are used. It is designed and enforced in an attempt to inform everybody in case of a real emergency may happen. It is important to join this government program because it can save millions of lives and reduce the impact of earthquakes on human beings. It also aims to improve the earthquake preparedness of local communities and increase the participation of local government units in the construction of stable societies.

At any moment, natural disasters and other emergencies can happen. With proper preparation and advance planning, it is best to be prepared and ready for all eventualities, since no one can predict when earthquakes are going to happen. It is a must to comply during the actual event of the disaster to establish a detailed, all-hazard emergency plan and conduct earthquake drills.
